Butter Cookies

2/3 cup of butter
1/4 cup of sugar
2 eggs
3 cups of flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Sugar, to sprinkle

Cream butter, sugar and eggs together in bowl until light and foamy. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together into separate bowl,  stir into egg mixture. Stir in vanilla, mix until smooth. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350ºF. roll chilled dough out to 1/4 inch thickness on lightly floured work surface. Cut into desired shapes, sprinkle with sugar and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 5 dozen

Butter Cookies 2

1 1/2 cup of butter, softened
1 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
3 3/4 cup of flour

Cream first four ingredients. Add vanilla. Stir in flour. Roll 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out with cookie cutters and place on ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with colored sugar. Bake at 350ºF. for 10 to 12 minutes. Yield: 30 to 36 cookies. 

Butter Ball Cookies 3

1 cup of butter
2 cups of flour, sifted
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/2 cup of powdered sugar
1 cup of nuts, finely chopped

Cream butter thoroughly. Gradually add powdered sugar; beat well. Add flour, vanilla and nuts gradually and mix well. Roll into smooth, round balls and refrigerate for 1 hour or longer. Bake for 30 minutes at 325ºF. without allowing to cool, roll in powdered sugar. 

German Butter Cookies 4

1 1/2 cup of sugar
1 1/2 cup of butter
4 cups of flour
2 eggs
2 teaspoons of vanilla
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of cream of tartar

Mix together all ingredients and spoon or roll into ball (can be rolled in sugar). Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350ºF. for 8 to 10 minutes. 

Rolled Out Butter Cookies 5

3 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of soda
2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
1 cup of butter, slightly softened
2 eggs
1 1/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/2 teaspoon of salt

Mix together flour, soda, and cream of tartar. Cut butter into flour as for pie crust. Beat eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt until thick. Combine both mixtures. Chill about 1 hour. Roll out as thin as possible. Sprinkle white sugar on top as you roll. Cut into desired shape. Bake at 375ºF. Guaranteed not to stick. 

Rolled Butter Cookies 6

1 cup of sugar
1 cup of soft butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
3 tablespoons of cream
1 teaspoon of vanilla
3 cups of flour, sifted
1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and cream. Mix. Add dry ingredients. On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out desired shapes. Bake at 400ºF. for 5 to 8 minutes. Frost and decorate.
