| Texas Buttermilk Pound Cake
1 cup of shortening 3 cups of sugar 6 egg yolks 3 cups of flour 1/4 teaspoon of soda 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1 cup of buttermilk 6 egg whites, beaten stiff 2 teaspoons of lemon juice |
| Beat shortening and sugar together; add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each; alternate dry ingredients with buttermilk and mix; fold in lemon juice and beaten egg whites carefully. Put in a tube pan (Pam or grease pan first). Bake at 325ºF. for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Glaze:
1/4 cup of buttermilk Powdered sugar
Mix 2 ingredients together to desired consistency and pour over warm cake. |
