| Orange and Date Bread
1 cup of butter or margarine, soft 2 cups of sugar 3 eggs 4 cups of flour 1 teaspoon of baking soda 1 teaspoon of salt 1 1/3 cups of buttermilk 1 cup of chopped dates 1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts 1 tablespoon of grated orange rind Glaze 1/4 cup of orange juice 1/2 cup of sugar 2 tablespoons of grated orange rind |

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, beat well. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with the buttermilk. Fold in the walnuts, dates and orange rind. Pour into two 8 1/2 inch greased and floured pans and bake at 350ºF. for about an hour. Can be made ahead and frozen. Source: Taste of Home |
